Policy Review of Coastal Fluxes in the Anthropocene

The project “The Role of the Coastal Ocean in the Disturbed and Undisturbed Nutrient and Carbon Cycles” was implemented within the UNEP-GEF International Waters focal area, Operational Programme 10 – Global contaminants, the sub-programme: “Sustainable Management and Use of Natural Resources” by the Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ) project. We reviewed the project outputs and outcomes to produce a publication that described the background and context for the project illustrating the key science outputs and considering the wider management implications of the outcomes of the project. The outcomes of the project are evaluated against the context of UNEP-GEF policy. The evaluation is used to make an assessment of what direction and advice the project outcomes can make for future UNEP-GEF policy and funding priorities, particularly in the context of management relevant science. A public version of the report is available at http://www.loicz.org/imperia/md/content/loicz/science/gef-booklet.pdf.
