Development of marine leaders in Asia, Caribbean, South America and Western Indian Ocean

Contracted by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and SIDA this project was targeted at developing capacity in marine leaders from the main developing regions of the world. High-level marine practitioners were drawn from the government services as well as the larger NGO and development sector. The approach was to develop leadership capacity in the marine leaders, support technical staff within their institutions to develop technical skills in marine assessment and GIS, then as a region develop new funding streams to support regional initiatives. The project was a mix of capacity development and institutional strengthening as well as technical skill development. We implemented a SE Asia workshop to assess and prioritise regional coastal and marine issues, review of capability and competence of the involved institutions, assessment of relevant donor funding schemes, development of targeted regional themes and then support with developing logical frameworks and stakeholder analysis of each theme.
